Art in Wood -- Segmented Sculptures

Segmented sculptures are made from a number of segmented "rings" which are tapered to an angle. Each ring has a slight twist relative to the adjacent rings to cause a spiraling effect within the piece. No two sculptures are made alike. Each piece is truly one-of-a-kind. I may make a similar shape in another wood, and I often will use similar wood for more than one shape. However, I do not make more than one sculpture of a given shape and combination of wood. "Tree of Life"

Wood: Bubinga and black veneer
Base: Black Belgium Marble
There are 1920 pieces of wood in this segmented sculpture. The black veneer pieces cause a gentle spiral
on both sides of the loops.

"Eye of the Storm"

Wood: Bubinga
Although the cross-section of this sculpture is a triangle, the addition of a 1/3 twist in the ring
causes there to be only one side to the piece. There are 192 pieces of wood in the sculpture.

There are 1280 pieces of wood in this segmented sculpture. The black veneer pieces cause a gentle spiral
on both sides of the loops.
